"Gemeente Politie sabel, rond 1870". / Dutch municipal police short sword around 1870. No serial number. Excellent bright finished fullered straight blade with German makers trade mark : Knight helmet on ricasso (= Kirschbaum - Solingen) and Dutch retailers name and residence: S. de Jager-HAARLEM  in a scroll on the blade. Sharp tip and leather washer intact. Excellent one piece grip with three ribs in Berlin-silver finish with a swept forwards quillon and a backward swept quillon with acorn finials. No scabbard. 

Dutch Municipal Police officer swords were used from 1850 - 1950. This is an early example, around 1870. Later models were made with a knucklebow. In 1966 the tips were official blunted.
