German M 1884/98 bayonet, first model by ALEX.COPPEL. Unit marked(ABCN445-1)(K139)(JN81-1)
Mauser M1871, 1871/84, 1888, 1898 rifle. Excellent bright finished blade with short fuller. German maker's name ALEX. COPPEL - SOLINGEN in two lines on ricasso. Prussian Crown over W 88 and inspection mark on blade spine. M 98 pommel type with T-O Slot and with two crisp German inspection markings. Excellent hump back style grip with smooth wooden grips and oil hole, attached to the blade tang by marked screw bolts. Bade tang shows three more inspection markings and a capital N near the muzzle ring remains. Bright finished pommel and crossguard with no muzzle ring. Crossguard is regimental marked 2. R. 10.7. Very good black leather scabbard with all stitches intact and bright metal fittings. Top mount is regimental marked B.11.R.3.211 (= 11e Bavarian infantry regiment Von der Tann- Regensburg) and there is another crossed out regimental marking B.9.R.R.1.245. (= 9th. Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment Wrede, Wurzburg) Fittings show German inspection markings on the chape and the throat.
The M 1884/98 First model (aA) was made of a M 71/84 bayonet by removing the muzzle ring and replacing the pommel and the grips.
A well marked first model.
