"Nederlands Infanterie Officierssabel M 1897"/ Dutch infantry officers sword M 1897. Excellent bright polished straight quilback blade with the German maker's trade mark: Knight helmet and crowned Kings head over W.K.& Co. (= Weyersberg and Kirschbaum & Co- Solingen. This trade mark was used from 1883 till 1918) on the ricasso. Intact brown leather washer. Excellent chromium plated pierced hand guard with 5 bars, engraved with flower motives. Detachable hilt with a ribbed brown composition grip.
Excellent chromium plated metal scabbard with one loose hanging ring and no dents. Some user spurs only.
Made around after 1900 and before 1914.
Length 90 cm. Blade width, measured at the ricasso: 2.9 cm.
The sword comes with its correct Dutch officers sword knot as found showing the usual wear only.
This sword was adopted in 1897 and was already replaced in 1912 by a complete different brass model: M 1912 infantry officers sword. It still has a ceremonial function for officers of the Dutch Princes Irene brigade. A Dutch infantry regiment, founded in England during WWII and active during and after D-day for the liberation of occupied Europe.
