Bayonets for sale
Dutch M 1891 experimental knife bayonet for the Dutch Remington Pontoneer carbine. (ABCN403)(K120)(JN0)
Dutch M1891 Remington Rolling block Pontoneer carbine. Serial number: D 600 on the crossguard and 462 on the reverse side. Excellent- bright finished slim double edged blade with a central rib and a (correct!) blunt tip. The blade is some very fine peppered only.
German makers name: WEYERSBERG - KIRSCHBAUM & Co. over SOLINGEN in three lines on the ricasso. Dutch inspectors marking: Crown over B, on the reverse side. Bright finished pommel and crossguard with a rather long forward swept quillon. T- slot mortise with a blued tear drop atch. Muzzle ring. MRD: 18,5 mm. Excellent + two parts wooden grips, riveted to the blade tang by two large steel rivets.
No scabbard. It is believed, scabbards were never ever produced for this model!
Note: Due to its fragile blade tip, the bayonet was issued to the Dutch Pontoneers with a blunt tip and it was ment to be sharpened in war time only. Many were later sharpened by collectors, who were not aware of this unique phenomenon!.
Extremely rare experimental dagger/bayonet! Less then 650 Pontoneer bayonets were ever made, making this model the rarest Dutch military bayonet!
